The main focus of this training program is to teach the family dog how to behave in your home and in public places. You will be taught how to get the response from your dog that you want without using force or treats. The reason to train this way is to have your dog respond to you as the leader, rather than having to submit to force (fear) or being bribed with treats. Your dog will learn to respond in the appropriate manner because it wants to please you, and your dog really, really, really, wants to please you. So, let's work with your dog to keep that second nature (the willingness to please) intact.
You will learn how to show your dog the behaviors that you are pleased with, and undesired behaviors fall away.
Your dog is a pack animal. The pack has to have a leader. If your dog does not see you as leader, guess what, your dog is then obligated to be the leader because, “the pack has to have a leader”. Now if your dog sees itself as leader that makes you a follower. Your dog as “leader” makes decisions that leaders make for the family pack. Much, much better is for your dog to choose you as the leader and become the follower. The dog will do this happily when you learn what it is the dog is looking for in a leader. I have seen fearful, timid dogs become self confident and aggressive dogs become mellow.
